Philosopher’s Table (Mural)
When our friends at the Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly known as Ryerson) called us for help to enrich and beautify their graduate student lounge with art, of course we knocked on our beloved and talented Kat’s door.
In conversation with the students and the faculty, we developed some ideas and settled on the Philosopher’s Table, where some of the most influential philosophers in history come together to play poker as they indubitably argue about philosophical concepts until the cows come home.
Kat was able to express not only a beautiful and vibrant seen to inspire more thinking and dialogue in the lounge but also captured the spirit of each philosopher. Of course, Wittgenstein is annoyed and frustrated; Nietzsche is arguing the ideals of becoming great with fervour; Marx is pulling in the chips for the proletariat; and, Sartre, like his infamous waiter from Being and Nothingness serves drinks, completely absorbed in his role.
